11000 exotic species have invaded Europe
A singular project of investigation has determined that there is more than 11000 present exotic species in Europe, that biologically have invaded Europe. Known like Daisie, the investigation project, with more than 100 European scientists, provides new data on the biological invasions in Europe.
The biological invasions of exotic species often give like result a significant loss to economic level, against the biological diversity and the operation of the invaded ecosystems.
The exotic species are plants, animal and microorganisms that have been moved by the human beings to new surroundings outside the place which they occupy naturally.
The invading species can have a deep impact on the environment and the society, since they can act like vectors of new diseases, to alter the processes of the ecosystems, the change of the biological diversity, and interrupt the cultural landscapes, reduce to the value of the Earth and the water human activities and to cause other socio-economic consequences to them.
More than 11,000 exotic species they have been documented by Daisie, most of which are not injurious.
Around 15% of these exotic species it causes economic damages and 15% cause to damage to the biological diversity, as they are the environment, the habitats and the native plants, animal and microorganisms, in agreement with the conclusions of the investigation.
The project provides a tool important to manage the threat of the biological invasion in Europe. The information of Daisie can be used to document the invasions in course, the prediction of new invasions and to prevent the future ones.
