They discover a statue of Buddha in Afghanistan

A team of archaeologists has found the statue of a reclined Buddha of 19 meters near giant the famous ruins of the Budas of Bamiyan, destroyed in 2001 by the regime talibán, today informed to Efe an official source. The monument, that dates from century III, was shortage in the central province of Bamiyan by a group of experts led by the Afghan archaeologist Zamaryalai Tarzi, according to an advisor of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Mohamad Zia Afshar.

Besides finding the statue, the equipment is shortage also 90 relics that include several currencies of the Greek Kingdom of Bactria and the Islamic era, Afshar explained. The team of archaeologists made the finding while it looked for in Bamiyan a statue of a Buddha reclined of 300 meters mentioned in a book of a Chinese pilgrim that visited the region several centuries ago, according to the source.

Until now, the neck and the right shoulder of the statue have been unearthed, added Afshar. Ever since the regime talibán dynamited in 2001 the two statues of Buddha of 55 and 38 meters, that had an antiquity of about 1,500 years, the experts have made important archaeological discoveries in Afghanistan.

In April of 2007, a group of Japanese, American and European scientists discovered that the first oil paintings were in caves bordering to the statues. The caves were decorated with paintings that date from centuries V to the IX and that they represent Budas dressed in túnicas vermilion seated between leaves palm and mythical creatures.

And in 2006, a team of investigators German found a one fragment sutra or versicle in sánscrito that tried on the mortality of all the beings and that gave tracks on the mystery of the creation of the Buddhist statues that the regime talibán destroyed.
