They find the fossil tracks of older animal leg never known
North American scientists found the tracks fossilized of legs of a small animal of about 570 million years, the oldest open pies until the moment, in agreement with a spread study east Sunday in the United States.
These fossilized tracks, that an aquatic animal left on a layer of sediments in Nevada, show that animal provided of legs 30 million years walked at least on our planet before which was considered, emphasizes Loren Babcock, professor of Biology in the University of Ohio.
Babcock is the main author of the study presented/displayed in the conference of the Geological Society of America, that takes east place weekend in Houston, Texas.
The scientists thought that the organisms that lived in the Earth during the called period precámbrico, were mainly microbes and simple multicellular animal, according to the study. The tracks saw as two parallel rows of small marks of about two millimeters of diameter each, and date from about 570 million years, that correspond to the period of the ediacariano (- 630 million to -542 million years) that precedes to the cámbrico.
This last period marked to the appearance and the evolution of the majority of the main animal groups.
“We continued seeing the possibility that more flat complexes during the ediacariano period like soft chorales, arthropods and worms exist animal, but the indications are not absolutely convincing”, said Babcock.
“Despite, the discovery of indications as the tracks of an animal with legs (…) it returns this probable possibility much more”, added.
This scientist thought “reasonably safe” that the fossil was a luck of centipede or a worm with legs whose body had to measure a centimeter of width. A fossil of such animal would be an irrefutable test of the existence during that period of biologically complex animal, wrote down.
Badcock, that it by chance affirmed to have made the discovery, will continue tracking the region of the west of Nevada, that makes 570 million years was under conserved the fossil sea and where they would have to be good.
According to her, the other potentially propitious sites for the animal fossil discovery that belonged to the ediacariana era would be the region of the White Sea in Russia, the south of Australia, Newfoundland and Namibia, where fossil of simple organisms of the same period already they were found.
In 2002, other paleontologists had communicated a similar discovery in Canada of fossilized tracks of legs that dated from half-full from the cámbrico period, makes 520 million years.
Other tracks, that dated from 540 million years, also were open pies in the south of China
