A revolutionary Dutch invention will secure to the reforestation of the desert and the rocky areas of the planet in the next years. The experiments realised in the desert of the Sahara have demonstrated that WaterBoxx obtains that the trees grow in complex conditions, and can provide the sufficient water to them. 

The invention of the industralist and Dutch inventor Pieter Hoff has obtained to the prestigious Beta Dragons Award during the annual celebration of the Flying Dutchman 2008, Science & Technology Summit celebrated in Amsterdam. A group of scientists and outstanding personages of the industry have proclaimed their design like the most promising and innovating project. The delegated advisor of Philips, Gérard Kleisterlee, gave the corresponding amount to him of 10,000 Euros.  

WaterBoxx is a species of rectangular plastic bucket, with a hole in center that allows to plant a tree in the ground. The falsified design of its part superior catches the water of the nocturnal condensation. Next to the water of occasional rains, the water is distributed in small doses by the interior of the tree. In addition, WaterBoxx avoids that the water of the layers superiors evaporates, protecting the roots of the sun, wind, weeds and rodents. After a year, the tree is sufficiently strong as to grow by itself and the WaterBoxx it can retire. 
   

The trees can grow in barren zones, but they will not be able to germinate. WaterBoxx provides a beginning to them in which to be based, explained Hoff.  

Recently it realised a test successfully of his invention in the Sahara of Morocco. 90% of the trees planted with WaterBoxx follow alive and green after several months under the conditions of the summery heat. 90% of the trees planted without WaterBoxx died, in spite of to have received water of weekly form.  

Hoff is convinced that, if the suitable species stand, great parts of the planet without sacrificing agricultural earth will be able to be reforested. It is looking for investing to apply his invention in the Middle East, India, barren Africa and other territories. Hoff declared: If we can reforest 2,000 million hectares, the trees will consume more CO2 del than it produces the man, and the complete problem of CO2 would be solved. Its WaterBoxx will be available from the 1 of 2009 July.
