The ghost city of Cambodia
Bokor Hill Station is a left ghost city constructed by the French in the decade from 1920 to the outskirts of Kampot, in the south of Cambodia.
The city was built to offer to the wealthy French colonists a place where to take refuge of the humidity and the estresante bullicio of the city of Phnom Penh. The main building of the city was the great Hotel Bokor Palace, that also was a casino and a dance hall. Also there were stores, a post office, a church and houses.

In spite of the deterioration, the beauty can one imagine with facility that could have the rooms of the Bokor Hotel in other times. Now, nevertheless, all the walls are covered with mosses and fungi of different colors. The water drips of the ceilings; the painting and the tiles, over the years, have been deteriorated and the set is really tenebrous.

The first thought that has when seeing this strange place is that it seems the perfect scene for a terror film. In fact, it exists a Korean film of this sort, R-Point, realised in this city in 2004.

The construction of this unusual place of rest was obtained to a high price: apparently, more than 2000 Cambodians they died during the construction of the highway.
The majority of the buildings, at the moment left, still is still on and can be still explored.

This place is property of the government, but it has rented the Sokimex Group, that is reconstructing the access road and rehabilitating the old constructions, like the hotel-casino, and constructing new buildings, like hotels, hospitals, restaurants and clubs of golf. Luckyly, this left city will not suffer a fate of other many and will be able to return to have the splendor of past times.
