The human being takes to many decades looking for signals of intelligent life coming from the outside. We want to know that we are not single in the Universe, and numerous devices have unfolded destined to catch any intelligent message of the space. But until now there has been no result or if. One, but only sufficient one to seed the disagreement and the uncertainty until the moment.

Presumably it is the only message of received radio to date of extraterrestrial origin, emitted by intelligent beings. It is known like signal WOW.

The 15 of August of 1977 to the 23:16 hours, the radio telescope Big Ear exactly received a signal of radio of origin unknown during 72 the second originating of the zone west of the constellation of Sagitario and reaching an intensity 30 times superior to the basic noise. According to the used protocol, this signal was not recorded but it was registered by the computer of the observatory in a designed section of continuous paper for such effect. Days later, a young professor of the University of the State of called Ohio Jerry Ehman, who was working like volunteer in project SETI reviewing the registries of the computer, discovered overwhelmed the anomalous signal more intense than he had detected itself until then by a radio telescope. The signal was well-known like WOW due to the annotation that Jerry Ehman did in the continuous paper. The sequence of this signal was: 6EQUJ5. At present still it is investigated if this signal of radio comes from an intelligent extraterrestrial civilization or some satellite that was within the observation sector of the radio telescope.

All the later attempts to obtain a signal of the same direction have not found anything unusual.

The bandwidth of the signal is smaller to 10 KHz. For the frequency two different values have occurred: 1420.356MHz and 1420.456MHz, in any case those frequencies are next to the frequency of hyperfine transition of hydrogen. That frequency comprises of the radio spectrum in which the emission by international treaties is prohibited.

The numerate code 6EQUJ5 owns a specific meaning. The received intensities of the space are codified of the following way:

0 = Intensity 0
1 9 = Intensity 1, Intensity 9
to, b, = Intensity 11, Intensity 12 and so on.
There are three hypotheses that try to explain the phenomenon:

 1 - The signal comes from a radio transmission of an artificial satellite that crossed that orbit at that moment. The institutions of tracking, such as NORAD have discarded this possibility of plane.

2 - The radio transmission was product of an astronomical event of enormous power. This explanation has been received with skepticism because it would imply the superexistence of some remainder of such phenomenon, that he would have been observable by means of at least one of the many other techniques of pick up.

3 - The signal has its origin in an extraterrestrial civilization with a powerful transmitter.
It has been speculated on much on this last one alleging that to want to communicate with another civilization would be due to use the frequency of hydrogen.

The certain thing is that until now, and for already 30 years, signal WOW has been continuing being a mystery that permanecera thus many years but, someday we perhaps find answers
