Vitoria. - Three ex- archaeologists engaged by the company that directed Eliseo Gil in the excavation of the Roman deposit of Iruña-Veleia have denounced today “serious anomalies and irregularities” in the used method and have denied to have seen no exceptional graphite at the time of their extraction.
Miguel Angel Berjón, Jose Angel Curled Apellániz and Carlos, that worked in the deposit between the 2002 and the 2008, has appeared today in a press conference, accompanied by the leasehold deputy of Culture of Alava, Lorraine Lopez de Lacalle.
The three archaeologists have made a joint declaration public in whom they denounce the method of work used by the Lurmen company, directed by Eliseo Gil, in the excavations of Iruña-Veleia, in relation to the appearance of graphites of thematic Christian and the words in euskera, considered false by a commission of experts.
They have assured that they made the decision to leave his work the same day that Lurmen made the appearance public of exceptional graphites, “without the advisable endorsement and resists scientist”.
They have argued that the method of excavation adopted by the direction in the place where were the material mentioned ones “presented/displayed serious anomalies and irregularities of praxis archaeological”, that caused that the conclusions of the direction were “in many a priori cases”.
Between these irregularities they have indicated that they participated young pertaining to fields of qualified nonpersonal work and for it, as well as that no of exceptional graphites was detected by them at the time of its extraction, but in the one of the washing, in which he worked personal of Lurmen.

Also, the three professionals have defended that the hypothetical finding must have protected with measures that guaranteed the reliability of the used method, like the slowing down of the working cycle, a protocol of immediate washing, a photographic recording and video, or the manpower level with experience and credited degree.
They have assured that, in spite of to have transferred these proposals to the direction of the project, this one “did not have them in consideration”.

For this reason, as far as the conclusions of the commission of experts that creates false graphites, they have said that the qualification of its members “is guarantee to understand that their opinions are decisive and definitive”.

The mentioned archaeological intervention has been realised with absolute scientific competition, as much in the methodologic expositions as in the exhaustive cronoestratigráficos data summary, that responds at the moment to the systems applied in the archaeological discipline. The registry has been carried out with the rigor that demands the use of the Matrix Harris, that allows to contemplate the “archaeological fact” from possible most aseptic the objective perspective and. The graphical and photographic material regarding the documentation corresponding to stratigraphy, sections and planimetry is illustrative and pertinent. The sampling of materials that have been object of physico-chemical analyses also has been correct and opportune, having provided unquestionable dates of absolute chronology with respect to the analyzed deposit.
On the other hand we did not enter the valuation of the historical interpretation that the investigators deduce from the cronoestratigráfico registry that, by experience, we know that he is based on work hypotheses that can contain, logically, subjective elements. Also, and looking for a greater objectivity, we have done without the analysis of the reclaimed epigraphic material, so that our valuation concentrated exclusively in the scientific and methodologic solution of the own excavation, in our opinion fully proven.

I comprised of one of those fields of work that were realised concretely in the archaeological excavation of Iruña Veleia, in the summer of the 2005, in which the young people we could carry out the excavation mission during a period of two weeks that lasted the work field, something that was highly interesting, because we knew that it was a privilege.
I was direct witness of the appearance of a hieroglyphic in a piece of a container, so direct because I myself it was washing the piece, work that was always supervised by a member of the excavation.
Today, when doing to me echo of the news on the falsification of the same my memories has been blackened with the shade of the deceit, was magnificent days and a great experience at personal level, but no longer I will be able to never say proud more than I participated in a great finding, if not that I will remember for my adentros that I was victim of a lie.
